Coming from a musical family with a wide range of influences has been a true blessing. My grandmother was the organist in her small town rural church and my mother and father performed in theatrical productions and the church choir. My father was a powerful vocalist who was often requested for ceremonial performances and was an inspiration for me while growing up. When I was young, I had formal piano lessons and opportunities for vocal performance which provided a strong foundation for the future. My older brother Roger introduced me to the guitar in high school and I was very fortunate to have formal private guitar instruction in college. Early in my musical journey, I performed at many wedding and funeral celebrations. Most recently, I've also performed in live gigs both solo and with other talented artists. Following my life's chosen destiny, my wife, children, and career have taken highest priority. While that is still true; as a retired empty nester, I am now free to continue my pursuit of creative passion and the publishing and sharing of my portfolio of original music.
My singer/songwriter style is mainly from the Folk and Folk/Rock genres. I have written or cowritten over thirty original songs which are predominantly created and performed on the guitar. Recently, I have found inspiration composing songs on the piano. My topics rage from deep introspection, to simple life experience, and songs of authentic love. My writing mainly comes from two distinct periods of my life: post college and post retirement. Many of my early songs have been revisited and most recently with the encouragement of my children, I have been working towards releasing them to the world.
I have had the opportunity to work with many incredibly talented artists over the years. Most notably Lauren Nikohl, Jeff Landby, Roger Tomhave, Carole Tomhave, J.D. Martin, and Scott Monitor. Most of my co-writes have been with my long time brother-in-crime Roger.
